A travel-focused AI experience
Airbnb says its AI travel agent is set to reach users in the first half of 2027. The company outlined the plan in its third-quarter shareholder letter, describing a tool designed around the way people explore and plan trips--not just a conventional text-based chatbot.
The agent is expected to adapt its interface to each traveler's needs, bringing together features such as maps, photos, comparisons, calendars and itineraries. Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has said trip planning is part of the experience, and the company notes that many travelers enjoy researching destinations and weighing accommodation options.
Drawing on Airbnb's experience connecting hosts and guests, the agent is also intended to assist travelers during their stay. Planned capabilities include help with reservation changes, payment questions, refunds, rebooking and around-the-clock safety support.
Airbnb says it may expand the agent's role over time to cover more of a trip, including stays, services and experiences. If successful, the travel-specific approach could make AI planning more interactive while keeping discovery and personal choice at its center.
