AI Assistants Are Moving Into Text Messages

AI assistants are moving into text messages, handling calendars, travel, family plans and everyday tasks through services such as Caddy, Instinct, Poke and Fambot.

AI Assistants Are Moving Into Text Messages

Artificial intelligence assistants are increasingly available through the messaging apps people already use. A text can become a request to organize a calendar, set a reminder, research a trip, book a table or take care of a follow-up--often with the agent drawing on information across connected services.

One chat, many kinds of help

Caddy links conversations and calendars to surface items that need action, while Comma can work across a user's browser, computer and files, then send updates through messaging platforms. Both illustrate a shift from AI that simply answers questions to tools designed to carry tasks through multiple steps.

Other assistants focus on particular parts of daily life. Fambot gathers family schedules, school messages and household tasks into plans and daily summaries. Miso specializes in travel, combining trip planning with flight information and personalized recommendations. For creators, Stanley can help develop ideas, draft social posts and organize a publishing calendar.

Agents for everyday tasks

General-purpose options include Instinct, which can connect to services such as email and calendars, and Poke, which handles requests involving planning, reminders and smart-home controls. Folk can retain context between conversations and take on multi-step tasks, while Martin supports calendars, messages, notes and daily briefings.

Several products are also built around households, including Ohai, Ollie and Orbits. Others offer distinct approaches: Underdog runs its AI model on the user's computer, while Wajo's agent Fo is designed to contact businesses and coordinate bookings or purchases.

Features, supported messaging services and availability vary: some products are in beta, while others offer public access or paid plans. As these tools become more capable, they could make conversational messaging a practical gateway to managing work and everyday life.
