YouTube Unveils Innovative Podcast Features with AI Recommendations and Enhanced Listening Modes

YouTube enhances its podcast offerings with AI recommendations, an Auto speed feature, and on-the-go listening modes for Premium users, aiming to boost engagement and user experience.

YouTube has recently introduced a suite of exciting podcast features aimed at Premium users, including an AI-driven recommendation tool, an "Auto speed" setting, and a new on-the-go listening mode. This update, announced on Thursday, highlights YouTube's commitment to enhancing the podcast experience and competing with other platforms in the growing audio content market.

With this initiative, YouTube aims to attract podcast enthusiasts, especially as platforms like Netflix increasingly invest in video podcasts. By prioritizing personalized content discovery and hands-free listening, YouTube is strategically positioning itself against audio-centric applications such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

The newly launched "Ask Music" feature allows Premium users to create tailored radio stations and playlists. Now, users can also receive podcast recommendations based on their preferred genres, current mood, or previously enjoyed shows, making the discovery process more engaging.

Another highlight is the "Auto speed" feature, designed to optimize the listening experience by automatically adjusting playback speed during segments with slower speech or dense information. This innovation ensures that users can enjoy a seamless experience without compromising comprehension.

While manual playback speed adjustments exist, they can often lead to inconsistencies when hosts vary their speaking pace or tone. The new feature addresses this challenge, allowing listeners to enjoy content at a consistently comfortable speed throughout the discussion.

The on-the-go mode further enhances usability for Premium users, providing intuitive controls perfect for multitasking or activities like running and commuting. Features like quick episode navigation and the ability to skip forward or backward make it easier for users to enjoy podcasts in various settings.

Currently, the Auto speed and on-the-go mode are available for Android users, with iOS support slated for release in the coming months. YouTube reports that Premium users engaged with over 800 million hours of podcasts in April 2026, and the platform boasts over 1 billion monthly active users in its podcast segment. With these new features, YouTube is poised to enhance user retention and expand its audience.
