X is preparing a new direct message alert feature that would notify users when a post they interacted with later receives a Community Notes correction. The update was announced by X owner Elon Musk, though no launch date has been shared.
The idea is to give corrections a longer reach. On fast-moving platforms, misleading posts can spread widely before context is added, so X's approach aims to bring updated information back to the users who already saw, liked, reposted, or engaged with the content.
Community Notes, first introduced when the platform was still known as Twitter, relies on contributors with differing perspectives to agree on helpful context before a note becomes visible. The system was designed as a more distributed alternative to centralized moderation, letting the community help surface missing details and corrections.
