WhatsApp is experimenting with a new way to organize business chats, aiming to make everyday messaging feel more streamlined. The company is testing a folder called Offers & Updates that will automatically collect messages from larger businesses such as banks and airlines after a set period of time.
According to Meta, the timing is still being refined, with tests running for windows of up to 24 hours before a message is moved. Users can turn the feature off if they prefer a different inbox experience, though the automatic sorting itself is not user-controlled.
The goal is simple: keep promotional codes, delivery notices, and other business updates out of the main chat stream so personal conversations are easier to follow. For companies, the folder could also create a clearer destination for customers looking for official updates.
The test is currently limited to selected partners on the WhatsApp Business Platform. Small businesses and individual business accounts are not included for now, although WhatsApp says it may consider expanding the feature later.
The move fits into a broader effort to improve message quality on the app, following earlier tools that gave users more control over business communication. At the same time, WhatsApp has also expanded its AI business tools, now used by more than 1 million businesses worldwide.
If the test proves effective, WhatsApp could move closer to a messaging model that separates personal and commercial communication more intelligently, shaping how large-scale chat platforms evolve in the future.
