Uber Freight is reviewing a reported cyber incident after a hacking group claimed it accessed company data. According to the company, its operations were not disrupted and its systems continued to run normally.
The group behind the claim, known as Helix, has recently been linked to attacks on transportation, finance, and private equity firms. Its approach typically centers on cloud-based data theft, followed by pressure tactics aimed at forcing payment in exchange for silence.
In its leak post, the group said it obtained mailboxes, cloud storage files, and documents tied to accounts payable and dispatch operations. Some materials reviewed by journalists appeared to include email exchanges between Uber Freight and customers, though their authenticity has not been independently confirmed.
Google has identified Helix as part of a broader cluster it tracks as UNC6671, noting that the group often uses social engineering methods such as voice phishing to gain access through help desks and password resets. The company also said the group's bitcoin wallets show at least $10.6 million in ransom-related payments between January and May.
As digital logistics expands, stronger identity controls and cloud security practices are likely to become even more central to the future of connected supply chains.
