Uber is set to enhance its technological landscape in India by establishing new engineering campuses and partnering on a data center initiative, aimed at bolstering its product development and infrastructure capabilities.
On Thursday, Uber unveiled plans to construct two expansive campuses in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, designed to accommodate approximately 9,600 employees by the close of 2027. These new offices will complement Uber's existing operations in these vibrant tech hubs, which are renowned for their software and engineering talent.
Moreover, Uber announced a collaboration with the Adani Group to develop its inaugural data center in India, slated to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. These strategic announcements were made during the recent visit of Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi to India.
Currently, Uber employs around 3,500 individuals in India and is actively seeking to expand its technical workforce as it increases investments in artificial intelligence (AI) globally. The company is focused on hiring for positions related to generative AI, machine learning, autonomous vehicle operations, and backend infrastructure.
India has emerged as a pivotal engineering and product development hub for global tech firms, thanks to its extensive pool of software talent. For Uber, this expansion signifies a strategic move towards exploring new growth avenues beyond ride-hailing, with a pronounced emphasis on AI, automation, and autonomous vehicle technologies. Earlier this year, Uber invested $330 million into its Indian operations to strengthen its market position.
