While many view Uber primarily as a ride-hailing and food delivery service, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi perceives the company as a vast ecosystem of code and innovation. Recently, it was revealed that Uber's engineers have developed an AI chatbot modeled after Khosrowshahi himself, which they use to prepare for meetings with upper management.
In a recent episode of Steven Bartlett's podcast, "The Diary of a CEO," Khosrowshahi shared insights about this innovative approach. He noted that some teams at Uber have created a "Dara AI" to refine their presentations before presenting to him. This AI serves as a rehearsal tool, allowing engineers to fine-tune their ideas and slide decks prior to the actual meeting.
"One of my team members told me that some teams have built a Dara AI, you know, so that they basically make the presentation to the Dara AI as a prep for making a presentation to me," Khosrowshahi explained. He emphasized that by the time a proposal reaches him, it has undergone significant preparation and refinement, aided by this AI technology.
Khosrowshahi elaborated on the transformative impact of AI at Uber, stating, "It really is changing their productivity in a way that I've never, ever seen before." He highlighted that approximately 30% of Uber's software engineers actively utilize AI tools, demonstrating a strong commitment to integrating technology into their workflows.
These engineers are not just users; they are the architects and builders of the systems that drive Uber forward. Khosrowshahi described them as "manufacturing the bricks that go into the system" while also envisioning the overall structure of these technological frameworks.
This innovative use of AI not only enhances productivity but also represents a significant step towards a future where technology and human ingenuity work hand in hand to reshape businesses.
