Uber is rolling out a new live video streaming option for teen accounts, giving parents and guardians a real-time view of rides when the feature is available. The launch will expand across the United States in the coming weeks.
The system uses the driver's selfie camera to provide the feed. When a trip begins, the linked parent or guardian account receives a notification if streaming is enabled. If they open the stream, both the teen and the driver are informed.
Only the parent or guardian account connected to the teen profile can access the live view. Uber says the stream ends when the ride is over, and no participant can revisit the video afterward.
The company describes the data as encrypted, though it has not clarified whether the protection is end-to-end. Uber has already activated the feature in nine markets, including Atlanta, Cleveland, and Rhode Island, before expanding it nationwide.
Uber introduced teen accounts in the U.S. in 2023 and has since extended the service to more than 50 countries. The update reflects how mobility platforms are moving toward smarter, family-focused safety tools that may shape the next generation of ride-sharing.
