Uber Acquires Getir's Delivery Business in Turkey

Uber has announced the acquisition of Getir's delivery business in Turkey, marking a strategic expansion into the region's food delivery market.

Uber Acquires Getir's Delivery Business in Turkey

Uber has announced its decision to acquire the delivery operations of Turkey's Getir, a prominent player in the country's startup scene. The agreement, revealed on Monday, marks a significant step for the ride-hailing giant.

As part of this deal, Uber will initially invest $335 million to take over Getir's food delivery sector. Additionally, Uber plans to spend $100 million for a 15% stake in Getir's grocery, retail, and water delivery services, with the full acquisition expected to be completed over the next few years.

This acquisition is being made from Getir's largest shareholder, the Emirati sovereign wealth fund Mubadala, which has been exploring options to divest its interests in the company.

Getir, which once boasted a valuation of $12 billion, has faced challenges in recent years, prompting it to streamline its operations significantly. Launched in 2015, the company initially gained traction and invested heavily to expand its reach in the U.S. and Europe, particularly during the pandemic.

However, as pandemic restrictions eased, consumer demand for delivery services declined, leading Getir to make the difficult decision to scale back its international operations and focus on its home market.

In the past year, Getir has navigated a complex restructuring process, which included legal disputes among its founders. Despite these challenges, the company has raised a total of $2.40 billion to date, with its group assets valued at approximately $374 million.

Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, deputy group CEO at Mubadala, emphasized that this transaction highlights the resilience and progress of Getir's business over the past year.

Uber intends to integrate the newly acquired services with Trendyol Go, another food and grocery delivery platform it purchased for $700 million last May. Notably, Getir's food delivery segment achieved gross bookings exceeding $1 billion in 2025, reflecting a 50% increase from the previous year.

This acquisition follows a robust performance by Uber's delivery sector, which reported $4.89 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter, marking a 30% year-on-year growth. The company noted that the Europe, Middle East, and Asia regions have been the fastest-growing markets for its delivery services.
