Two Unique Keith Haring Art Cars to Be Showcased in New York This Month

Renowned for his vibrant contributions to the art world, Keith Haring (1958-1990) continues to captivate audiences long after his passing from AIDS at the young age of 31. His works have seen a remarkable resurgence in interest, with auction prices soaring into the millions, a traveling exhibition in 2023, and exciting collaborations with brands like Polaroid, Converse, and Uniqlo.

In a recent announcement by Hypebeast, two of Haring's four artfully decorated cars--a 1963 Buick Special and a 1971 Land Rover Defender III--will take center stage at the upcoming exhibition titled "Keith Haring: In the Street," set to run for nine days in New York City.

These vehicles are adorned with Haring's signature motifs, featuring his instantly recognizable imagery of barking dogs, babies, and mushroom clouds, all rendered in his dynamic style. The cars belong to collector Larry Warsh, who operates the CART Department, a platform dedicated to celebrating the automobile as both an artistic and social artifact. The exhibition will take place at Warsh's venue, Free Parking.

The showcase will not only highlight the Buick and Land Rover but will also feature a selection of original Haring artworks. Attendees can look forward to engaging discussions with artists, writers, and those close to Haring. This event also serves as a prelude to the release of the new book Keith Haring in 3D, edited by Warsh and Glenn Adamson, which will accompany a major exhibition set to open in June at the Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas.

"Keith Haring: In the Street" will be open from April 10 to April 19 at Free Parking in New York City. Following this, the exhibition Keith Haring in 3D will be displayed at the Crystal Bridges Museum from June 6, 2026, to January 25, 2027.
