Nearly a year has passed since Trevor Milton, the founder of the now-defunct electric truck company Nikola, received a pardon from President Trump. Recently, the Wall Street Journal provided insights into Milton's latest venture: the development of autonomous aircraft.
Milton, alongside an investment group, acquired the struggling aviation firm SyberJet Aircraft towards the end of last year. Since then, efforts have been underway to revitalize the company. This includes recruiting numerous former Nikola employees and seeking potential investors, particularly from Saudi Arabia. Reports indicate that he has also allocated several hundred thousand dollars towards lobbying efforts.
Milton envisions creating a completely new avionics system designed to facilitate the "first light jet focused on artificial intelligence flight." This innovative approach could pave the way for lucrative defense contracts. However, he acknowledges the challenges ahead, stating that the complexities involved in aircraft development will be "ten times harder than what Nikola faced."
As Milton embarks on this ambitious journey, the implications of integrating AI into aviation could significantly reshape the industry, potentially leading to safer and more efficient air travel in the future.
