Three Exciting Claude AI Features Now Accessible for Free

Claude AI has released three new features for free users, enhancing its functionality and competitiveness in the AI landscape. Discover the possibilities today!

Anthropic's Claude AI continues to evolve, recently introducing three remarkable features for free users that were once exclusive to premium plans. This update enhances the appeal of Claude, positioning it as a competitive choice against other AI platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini.

The newly available features for free users include file creation, external plug-ins known as Connectors, and a set of instructions referred to as Skills. Let's explore how these innovations can be utilized.

File Creation in Claude

Claude's file creation functionality allows users to generate Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and PDFs directly within a chat. You can provide Claude with the necessary text and data or let it generate content autonomously.

For instance, if you have a list of names and scores, Claude can organize them into a spreadsheet. Alternatively, it can compile images into a PDF and provide descriptions. Claude can also analyze data, create visualizations, and summarize reports effectively.

To activate file creation, click on your profile icon in Claude's web interface, navigate to Settings > Capabilities, and enable Code execution and file creation. Once set up, simply prompt Claude with the type of file you want and the information to include, ensuring that you provide as much detail as possible for optimal results.

Claude Connectors

Connectors enable Claude to interface with various applications, services, and websites. Whether you want it to design graphics in Canva, manage messages in Slack, or search for travel deals, Claude can facilitate these tasks.

To access Connectors, click the + icon in the prompt box and select Add connectors. You can search for specific Connectors and filter them by type. After selecting a Connector, you'll need to enter your account credentials and grant Claude the necessary permissions.

Once connected, you can easily add or remove plug-ins and utilize them in your prompts. For example, using the Canvas Connector, I was able to create a simple birthday party flyer, showcasing Claude's enhanced capabilities.

Claude Skills

With Skills, you can instruct Claude on how to perform specific tasks consistently. These can be seen as macros that allow Claude to follow predefined instructions whenever you need to execute a task in a particular way.

For example, you can set parameters for emails or documents, specifying tone, length, and style, along with essential details like contact information. To create a Skill, click on your profile icon, go to Settings > Capabilities, and select Add under Skills. You can define a Skill through a conversation or by uploading a Skills file for more complex tasks.

I developed a Skill to summarize PDF reports by specifying the number of paragraphs and headings required. This way, I can efficiently invoke the Skill for future summaries without retyping instructions.
