Threads Expands Live Chats With Translation and New Host Tools

Meta's Threads is broadening its Live Chats experience with a set of updates designed to make real-time conversations smoother and more inclusive. The platform now supports translations, giving users a more accessible way to follow discussions across languages.

Access is also opening wider. Threads says more users identified as Community Champions can now launch Live Chats, a group that includes highly followed creators who regularly energize conversations in their communities.

For hosts, the platform is adding practical controls. Up to three co-hosts can now join a Live Chat, making it easier to guide discussions and share moderation duties. Hosts can also remove messages for everyone, while Threads is testing a design that gives host messages greater visual prominence.

Live Chats are built for active participation, allowing users to send text, photos, videos, links, and emoji reactions. Each chat can have up to 150 people posting at once, while additional participants can still watch, react, and join polls in spectator mode.

Threads says the feature has already seen hundreds of chats hosted nearly every day, with thousands of users joining in. The latest additions reflect feedback from creators and the platform's push to make conversations feel more immediate and community-driven.

The company also says desktop support and pinned messages are on the way. With Threads now reaching 500 million monthly active users, Live Chats is becoming one of the clearest signs of how the platform is shaping its next phase of social interaction. This evolution may help define a more dynamic future for online communities.
