Meta has started bringing Meta AI into Threads direct messages, giving users a private way to chat with the assistant inside the app. The move expands the platform's AI tools beyond public posts and into one-to-one conversations.
With the new feature, users can send Threads posts, images, links, and videos to Meta AI, then ask follow-up questions or explore topics in more depth. The experience is designed to make information discovery feel faster and more seamless within the app.
Meta says the rollout begins globally from Monday. The company is also continuing to test Meta AI in Threads' public feed in selected markets, while gathering feedback on how people interact with the feature.
For users who prefer a quieter feed, Threads offers controls such as muting @meta.ai, marking replies as "Not interested," or hiding AI responses on individual posts. The update reflects Meta's broader effort to keep users engaged across its ecosystem, where Meta AI is already available in Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp DMs.
As conversational AI becomes more embedded in social platforms, Threads is moving closer to becoming a place where discovery, discussion, and assistance happen in one flow. That shift could shape the next phase of everyday digital interaction.
