The Boring Company Envisions Austin-San Antonio Hyperloop Link

The Boring Company is considering a Hyperloop-inspired Austin-San Antonio route that could cut travel time to under 30 minutes and reshape Texas mobility.

The Boring Company Envisions Austin-San Antonio Hyperloop Link

Elon Musk says The Boring Company is exploring a "simple precursor Hyperloop" connection between Austin and San Antonio, a proposal that could reshape travel across one of Texas's fastest-growing urban corridors.

According to Musk, the system is designed to reduce the journey between the two cities to under 30 minutes. The concept would combine the company's tunneling expertise with high-speed transport ambitions, creating a potential alternative to conventional road-based travel.

A high-speed vision for Texas

The Boring Company has expressed interest in developing the large-scale infrastructure project. While technical plans, route details, construction timelines and regulatory approvals have not yet been announced, the idea signals renewed attention to compact, high-capacity mobility systems for major metropolitan regions.

The company currently operates its Vegas Loop transport network, which integrates underground tunnels with surface-level routes. Its recent $3 billion funding round could support broader research, engineering and infrastructure ambitions.

A future Austin-San Antonio link could offer a test case for how tunnel-based transit and Hyperloop-inspired systems might support faster regional connections. If developed successfully, the project could help accelerate a new generation of sustainable, time-efficient urban mobility.
