Former TikTok professionals Melody Chu and Jing Liu have introduced Superpose, an iOS camera app designed to help people feel more confident in front of the lens.
The app uses generative AI to create four pose suggestions from a selfie or a photo of another person. Users can save these ideas or activate a pose-matching mode that provides guidance while they position themselves for a portrait.
Focusing on real moments
Rather than creating fictional scenes or heavily altered images, Superpose is built around improving real-life photography. Its goal is to make portrait capture more intuitive by offering accessible direction on posture, framing and expression through the camera experience.
Chu's product background includes roles at Meta, Nextdoor, Roblox, TikTok and Slack. Liu previously worked in 3D face scanning before contributing to image and video model development at TikTok. Their combined experience in consumer products and visual AI shaped Superpose's practical approach to mobile photography.
Since launching in July, Superpose has surpassed 22,000 downloads and generated more than 190,000 pose concepts. The app includes five free AI generations each day, with additional generation packs available through in-app purchases.
The team is also refining pose styles, personalization tools and live coaching features within the viewfinder. Superpose has secured $2.2 million in funding, supporting its ambition to develop a more intelligent portrait camera experience.
As AI becomes a more natural part of everyday creative tools, apps such as Superpose could make expressive, well-composed photography more accessible to everyone.
