Sunday Achieves $1.15 Billion Valuation to Develop Household Robots

Robotics innovator Sunday has successfully completed a funding round that elevates its valuation to an impressive $1.15 billion, marking its entry into the unicorn club. This announcement was made recently as the company secured $165 million in a Series B funding round, spearheaded by Coatue Management, with participation from notable investors such as Tiger Global, Benchmark, and Bain Capital Ventures.

Having emerged from stealth mode just last year, Sunday has already garnered significant interest, boasting a waitlist of 1,000 eager customers. Founded by Tony Zhao and Cheng Chi, the company is focused on creating a humanoid robot named Memo, designed to assist with everyday household tasks, including laundry and table clearing.

The quest for a functional household robot has been a long-standing challenge for experts, reminiscent of the beloved Rosie from "The Jetsons." Historically, developers have faced hurdles, particularly in programming robots to handle various objects with differing weights, textures, and fragility. However, as advancements in artificial intelligence continue to unfold, a new wave of robotic technologies is emerging, reigniting hopes of bringing humanoid helpers to life.

With its groundbreaking approach and substantial backing, Sunday is poised to make significant strides in the realm of domestic robotics, potentially transforming how we manage household chores in the near future.
