StubHub has reached an agreement to pay $10 million to resolve allegations from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding misleading ticket pricing. The FTC claimed that StubHub did not adequately disclose the total cost of tickets, including all mandatory fees, on its platform.

The proposed settlement, announced on Thursday, highlights that StubHub's actions violated the FTC Act and its regulations concerning unfair or deceptive fees. The agency's complaint indicates that after the implementation of a new rule requiring price transparency in May 2025, StubHub continued to advertise ticket prices without providing the full price upfront.

FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson expressed disappointment, noting that StubHub was among the first major violators of the newly established rule. He stated that the company allegedly chose to delay compliance due to the impending release of the NFL's regular-season schedule, a significant event for StubHub that typically drives high traffic to its site. This decision, according to the complaint, was made based on the perceived competitive advantage that misleading pricing could provide.

Following a warning letter from the FTC on May 14, 2025, StubHub promptly addressed the issue the very next day. The $10 million settlement will be utilized to refund consumers who were affected during the three days of noncompliance.

A spokesperson for StubHub remarked, "We have long supported all-in pricing as it offers clarity for fans. This settlement pertains to a limited number of transactions over just three days in May 2025, where some listings may have shown ticket prices without fees. While we disagree with the FTC's perspective, we are taking steps to resolve their concerns by refunding a portion of those fees."

This development is part of the FTC's broader initiative to enhance transparency within the ticketing industry. In recent months, the agency has also taken action against other ticket marketplaces, emphasizing the need for fair practices that protect consumers from deceptive pricing.

As the landscape of ticket sales evolves, increased regulatory scrutiny may lead to more transparent pricing models, ultimately benefiting consumers and fostering trust in the marketplace.
