Spotify Unveils ElevenLabs-Enhanced Audiobook Creation Tool

Spotify has launched an AI-powered audiobook creation tool, enhancing self-publishing for authors and expanding its audiobook offerings across multiple languages.

In an exciting development for authors and audiobook enthusiasts, Spotify has launched a cutting-edge AI tool powered by ElevenLabs, designed for self-publishing audiobooks on the Spotify for Authors platform. This innovative feature, announced during Spotify's Investor Day event, is set to enter beta testing in June, initially available by invitation only and supporting the English language exclusively.

Notably, this AI-driven audiobook generation allows authors the freedom to publish their works across various platforms, avoiding any exclusive contracts. This flexibility marks a significant step forward in empowering creators.

This announcement builds on Spotify's previous collaboration with ElevenLabs, which enabled authors to submit audiobooks created through ElevenLabs' voice AI technology. Furthermore, Spotify has been expanding its audiobook offerings through partnerships, including one with Google Play Books, to enhance the diversity and quality of digitally narrated content. The integration of ElevenLabs' advanced voice models promises to deliver even more expressive and human-like narration.

The Spotify for Authors platform is also set to broaden its reach by adding support for ten additional languages, such as French, German, and Swedish, among others. This multilingual expansion reflects Spotify's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in the audiobook space.

Additionally, Spotify is enhancing its Audiobook+ plans, which will feature increased listening limits and new options tailored for students and families. While specific pricing details were not disclosed, the platform has already seen over a million Audiobook+ subscriptions, projecting an impressive $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

At the recent event, Spotify introduced a new natural language feature that allows users to ask questions for audiobook discovery, further enriching the user experience. This summer, the platform will also extend its prompt-based playlist feature, currently available for podcasts and music, to include audiobooks.

Spotify's dedication to audiobooks has resulted in a remarkable catalog growth, now boasting 700,000 titles. The company has successfully introduced its audiobook offerings to international markets, invested in non-English titles, and even facilitated in-app purchases. Recent initiatives have led to a 60% increase in listening hours year-on-year, with more than half of current audiobook listeners having joined within the past year.

As Spotify continues to innovate in the audiobook sector, these advancements not only enhance the experience for creators and listeners alike but also pave the way for a more vibrant and diverse audiobook landscape in the future.
