Through short, swipeable story cards, users can discover intriguing details and behind-the-scenes insights summarized from various sources. This innovative approach sets Spotify apart from competitors like Apple Music, enhancing its unique offering in the music streaming landscape.
Currently available in beta for premium users in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia, the "About the Song" feature can be accessed via the "Now Playing" screen. Users simply scroll down to find the card and swipe to learn more about the track they are enjoying.
In a blog post, Spotify expressed its belief that understanding the context and inspiration behind a song can significantly deepen the connection listeners have with the music they cherish.
This new feature is part of a series of updates from Spotify, which recently announced that users in the U.S. and the U.K. will soon be able to purchase physical copies of audiobooks directly through the app. Additionally, Spotify introduced features like "Page Match," allowing users to scan a page from a physical book to seamlessly transition to that point in the audiobook, and "Audiobook Recaps."
Furthermore, the company has expanded its lyrics feature, making translations available globally and enabling offline access for all users. Lyrics will now be displayed directly beneath album artwork or the accompanying short video.
In another development, Spotify is revamping its Developer Mode APIs, introducing new requirements that include a mandatory premium account for developers testing third-party applications.
