On Thursday, Spotify announced an exciting enhancement to its interactive AI DJ feature, which now accommodates four additional languages: French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese. Previously, this feature was only accessible in English and Spanish, making its latest update a significant step towards inclusivity.
The AI DJs have been given unique names and personalities to resonate with their respective languages: Maia for French, Ben for German, Alex for Italian, and Dani for Brazilian Portuguese.
In addition to broadening its language support, Spotify is rolling out this feature to several new countries, including Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, and Switzerland. With this update, the AI DJ is now available in over 75 countries worldwide.
Initially, Spotify's AI DJ simply provided commentary while playing user-selected tracks. However, in recent years, the company has made strides to enhance interactivity. In May 2025, the feature was updated to allow users to engage in conversations with the AI DJ, enabling them to request changes in mood or genre. This evolution mirrors the capabilities of popular AI models like ChatGPT and Claude, allowing for a more personalized listening experience.
Furthermore, Spotify has been actively integrating more AI functionalities into its app, including the ability to generate custom playlists of songs or podcasts based on user descriptions of their desired listening experience.
