Spotify brings conversational AI to music discovery

Spotify launches a conversational AI assistant for Premium users, enabling voice or text-based music discovery, playlist control, and smarter audio recommendations.

Spotify is deepening its AI strategy with a new feature that lets Premium users interact with the app through natural conversation to find music, podcasts, and audiobooks. The rollout begins in the U.S., Ireland, and Sweden on iOS and Android for English-speaking users aged 18 and over.

The beta experience allows listeners to type or speak requests in the Home and Now Playing views, then refine recommendations through follow-up questions. Users can ask for fresh artists, adjust the mood of a playlist, or explore tracks that match a specific style.

Spotify says the assistant can also answer questions about listening history, song inspiration, album release timing, and related artists. It can even help users save tracks, queue songs, or follow performers directly from the conversation.

Behind the feature, Spotify says it combines its own AI systems with models from multiple providers, choosing the best tool for each task. The company has already used AI in products such as AI DJ, prompt-based playlist creation, and integrations with third-party chatbots.

By turning music discovery into a more fluid dialogue, Spotify is moving closer to a personalized audio companion model. This approach could shape the future of streaming by making everyday listening more intuitive, adaptive, and interactive.
