Spotify introduces User Notes, letting listeners attach personal memories to songs and playlists in a new step toward more expressive music personalization.

Spotify adds "User Notes" to turn songs into personal memory capsules

Spotify is introducing User Notes, a feature that lets listeners attach short personal messages to individual tracks and playlists. The idea is simple: turn a song into a memory marker by adding context such as where it was discovered, why it matters, or what moment it represents.

The feature is designed to make playlists feel more expressive and reflective, blending music discovery with a light journaling experience. A user might note that a track was first heard on a trip, during a special celebration, or at a meaningful point in life. Spotify says these notes help preserve the stories behind the music people love.

User Notes is available to users aged 16 and older on both free and premium plans in select markets. To use it, listeners open a playlist they created or one that includes their added tracks, tap the three-dot menu next to a song, and choose "Add note." Once saved, the note becomes visible to people who can view that playlist, with the user's name linked to their profile.

The launch also highlights Spotify's broader push to make listening more personal and interactive. Alongside this feature, the company introduced a new Running Mode that matches music to pace and workout phases for premium users in select countries.

With features like these, Spotify is moving playlists beyond simple track lists and toward richer, more human digital experiences that could shape the future of music personalization.
