Sotheby's will bring 16 artworks from the collection of Miami-based investor and collector George Allen Weiss to its headline November sales.
The group is expected to highlight major names in modern and contemporary art, reflecting Weiss's longstanding interest in artists such as Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cézanne and Andy Warhol.
A curated selection for the November market
According to details shared during a court hearing, Sotheby's has established guaranteed minimum prices for six works in the selection. The arrangement provides an early benchmark for pieces entering one of the art market's most closely watched seasonal auction periods.
Weiss's broader holdings are understood to include at least 25 additional works. Previous plans involving the collection featured a Claude Monet Nymphéas from 1914-17, a 1972 Bacon self-portrait, and works associated with Picasso and Paul Signac.
The November offering places works spanning several defining movements of European and American art before an international collecting audience. It also underscores the enduring appeal of established artists whose work continues to shape museum collections, scholarship and the global auction calendar.
As major private collections increasingly enter the public market, sales of this scale may help define how cultural assets are valued, circulated and discovered by future generations.
