Sotheby's has added another major collection to its upcoming auction calendar, securing the late Argentine collectors Nelly Arrieta de Blaquier and Carlos Pedro Blaquier's Impressionist and Post-Impressionist holdings, valued at about $450 million.
The group brings together works by Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, positioning the sale as one of the season's most closely watched events in the art market.
Among the highlights is Van Gogh's Châtaignier en fleurs roses et blanches from 1890, which advisers estimate could reach $150 million to $200 million. A Cézanne from the artist's celebrated Harlequin series is also expected to surpass $120 million, while key works by Degas, Pissarro and Renoir are projected to attract bids above $25 million each.
The Blaquier collection has long been recognized as one of Argentina's most important private holdings. Nelly Arrieta de Blaquier was once described as the owner of the country's largest private art collection, and the family's name has remained closely linked to high-value masterpieces for decades.
This is not the first time the collection has reached the market. Earlier sales included Van Gogh's Zouave and two Paul Signac paintings, while the family's silver collection is also set to appear in London later this year.
With this consignment, Sotheby's strengthens its position in the competition for elite estates and museum-quality works, showing how top-tier collections continue to shape the global auction landscape. The result may help define the next phase of the high-end art market.
