Snapchat Adds Real-Time Music Sharing to Snap Map

Snapchat's new Now Playing feature lets users share real-time music activity on Snap Map, connect Spotify, and discover songs through Spotlight.

Snapchat Adds Real-Time Music Sharing to Snap Map

Snapchat is expanding Snap Map with a new feature that lets users share what they are listening to in real time. The tool, called Now Playing, connects a streaming account starting with Spotify and displays current listening activity on the map.

The update also brings music discovery into Spotlight, Snapchat's short-form video feed. Songs found in Spotlight can be saved directly to Spotify, or users can open the track page on the platform for quick access.

Sharing controls remain in the user's hands. Listening activity is not tied to full history, and visibility can be managed by audience settings. If Snapchat has not been opened for 24 hours, sharing pauses automatically. Users can also pause it for three hours, 24 hours, or longer.

The feature reflects a broader shift across social platforms, where music is becoming a more social and interactive layer of digital life. Snapchat says the update is rolling out in regions where both Snapchat and Spotify are available, with Canada expected soon.

As music and social discovery continue to merge, features like Now Playing may shape a more connected future for how people share taste, mood, and culture online.
