Snap is gearing up for the anticipated launch of its latest augmented reality glasses, Specs, later this year. However, the company has recently experienced a significant leadership change, losing Scott Myers, the Senior Vice President of Specs, reportedly due to a disagreement with CEO Evan Spiegel.

According to reports, Myers' departure was characterized by a "blow-up" with Spiegel, although Snap's official statement indicated that Myers voluntarily chose to step down. The company expressed gratitude for his contributions and wished him well in future endeavors. A Snap representative emphasized that the characterization of a dispute was disputed but offered no further details regarding the circumstances of Myers' exit.

The spokesperson reiterated Snap's commitment to launching Specs, stating, "We can't wait to bring Specs to the world later this year." The company remains focused on disciplined execution and aims to create long-term value for its partners and shareholders.

Details surrounding the timing of Myers' departure and the specifics of the reported disagreement remain unclear. In response to inquiries about the nature of the conflict, journalist Alex Heath mentioned that it revolved around "strategy," but he refrained from providing additional insights.

Snap has been actively promoting the commercial release of Specs, indicating a serious approach towards its launch. Earlier this year, the company transitioned the Specs team into a dedicated subsidiary, Specs Inc., to enhance operational focus and alignment.

Joining Snap in 2020, Myers previously held prominent positions at SpaceX, Apple, and Nokia. In a past interview, he described the development of Specs as an "entirely new paradigm," highlighting the challenges of achieving the perfect design. He humorously remarked on the importance of aesthetics, stating, "I don't want to see people wearing a wire coming out of the back of their head."
