Slate Auto's minimalist electric truck debuts at $24,950

Slate Auto has revealed its $24,950 electric truck, boosted range to 205 miles, and a modular design that can convert from pickup to SUV.

Jeff Bezos-backed Slate Auto has unveiled the starting price of its electric truck: $24,950 before taxes, fees, and optional extras. The company also opened pre-orders as it moves the model closer to market.

Alongside the price announcement, Slate said the base truck's estimated range has improved from 150 miles to about 205 miles. That positions the vehicle as one of the most accessible new EVs in the U.S. market, where budget-friendly options remain limited.

The truck follows Slate's "simple by design" philosophy. It begins as a two-seat pickup and can later be converted into a five-seat SUV, with the SUV version priced from $29,950. The company says the transformation can be handled by professionals or by owners themselves, supported by its Slate University tutorial videos.

To keep costs down, the vehicle skips many familiar features: it uses hand-crank windows, does not include a built-in infotainment system, and comes in a single gray composite finish. Buyers will be able to personalize the truck with wraps and accessories instead of factory paint options.

Slate also plans a direct-to-customer sales model rather than traditional dealerships. The startup has raised about $1.4 billion across multiple funding rounds as it builds a product aimed at redefining affordable electric mobility. If successful, the truck could help shape a new era of modular, lower-cost EV ownership.
