Salesforce, a leader in cloud software, is transforming its offerings with a strong focus on artificial intelligence. At a recent event in San Francisco, CEO Marc Benioff and his team introduced an upgraded version of Slack, featuring an array of new AI capabilities. Among the highlights is a significant enhancement to its AI assistant, Slackbot.

The upcoming 30 new features will roll out in the coming months, following a prior update in January that equipped Slackbot with enhanced functionalities such as drafting emails, scheduling meetings, and extracting specific information from user inboxes.

One of the standout additions is the concept of reusable AI skills, enabling users to define specific tasks for Slackbot that can be utilized across various contexts. This built-in library of AI skills allows for customization, empowering users to create tailored versions suited to their needs.

With these skills in place, the workload for employees can be drastically reduced. For instance, a user could simply command Slackbot to "create a budget" for an upcoming event. The bot would then gather relevant information from different Slack channels and integrated apps to formulate an actionable plan, even scheduling a meeting with the necessary participants automatically.

Slackbot has also evolved into an MCP (Model Context Protocol) client, allowing it to connect with external services and tools. This integration includes Salesforce's own Agentforce, launched in 2024, which enables Slackbot to efficiently route tasks and inquiries to the most relevant resources without requiring human intervention.

Rob Seaman, Slack's interim CEO, noted that Slackbot can now transcribe meetings and provide summaries. This feature ensures that participants who may miss key details can easily request a recap, complete with assigned action items.

Additionally, Slackbot's capabilities extend beyond its platform, monitoring desktop activities to offer actionable insights based on gathered data such as deals, conversations, and calendar events. Users can expect tailored suggestions and follow-up drafts for critical tasks, all while maintaining privacy controls that allow for permission adjustments.

In summary, Salesforce is redefining Slack's role from a mere communication tool to a comprehensive platform capable of managing diverse business tasks. The integration of AI is aimed at making Slack an essential component of enterprise workflows.

Reflecting on the journey since Salesforce's acquisition of Slack, Benioff highlighted the impressive growth, with revenue increasing two and a half times and about a million businesses now utilizing Slack. This transformation signifies a promising future for enterprise productivity through innovative AI solutions.
