Rosalyn Drexler's work is being reintroduced in New York through Garth Greenan Gallery, where the exhibition "My Life Has a Life of Its Own" brings together nearly 50 paintings and drawings from the 1960s. Curated by Fiona Laugharn, the presentation is organized into three sections--The Image, Image & Text, and Return to Image--and includes archival materials that trace Drexler's creative process. Newspaper clippings, notebook entries, and source images reveal how she built paintings from fragments of headlines, posters, and recurring figures, then reshaped them into new narratives.
The exhibition also connects to fashion. Designer Rachel Comey drew from Drexler's palette, motifs, and artistic independence for her Spring 2027 runway show in New York. The collection translated Drexler's world into clothing through vivid color pairings, wrestling-inspired details, graphic references, and subtle nods to her books and plays. Comey described the project as a tribute to Drexler's freedom and fearless creativity.
For Garth Greenan, the show reflects a broader effort to expand Drexler's audience and deepen recognition of her place in New York art history. As her work continues to move between gallery space and contemporary design, it points to a future where art, fashion, and archival memory increasingly shape one another.
