A strong start for Rivian's new electric SUV
Rivian says its R2 SUV was the company's top-selling vehicle in the third quarter, less than four months after its June launch. The automaker did not disclose R2-specific sales figures, but lifted the lower end of its annual delivery forecast from 65,000 to 67,000 vehicles.
Rivian built 19,751 vehicles and delivered 19,248 in Q3 2026--about 45% more deliveries than in the same quarter last year. The company attributed much of the quarter-over-quarter increase to the R2 and to a second production shift at its Normal, Illinois, factory.
The SUV starts at just under $60,000. A Premium version priced from $53,990 is expected later this year, with additional trims planned for 2027 starting at $44,990.
Rivian's early sales momentum and planned lower-priced models could broaden access to its electric vehicles. If production keeps pace with demand, the R2 may become an important driver of the company's next stage of growth.
