Rivian lifts full-year EV delivery outlook after stronger second quarter

Rivian raised its 2026 delivery forecast after a stronger second quarter, boosted by R1, EDV and the new R2 SUV as production expands in Illinois and Georgia.

Rivian has raised its full-year delivery forecast after a stronger-than-expected second quarter, signaling renewed momentum as the electric vehicle market in the U.S. continues to cool.

The company now expects to deliver between 65,000 and 70,000 vehicles this year, up from its earlier target of 62,000 to 67,000. Rivian said it built 12,613 vehicles and delivered 12,194 in the latest quarter, both above its own guidance.

The update comes as the brand expands its lineup and production base. Rivian pointed to solid growth in its commercial van business and R1 models, alongside the launch of deliveries for the new R2 SUV. The vehicle, which starts at about $58,000, is central to the company's next phase of growth.

To support that ambition, Rivian has expanded its Normal, Illinois facility and is also developing a new plant in Georgia designed for large-scale R2 production. Company executives have previously suggested the R2 could eventually reach annual sales of 20,000 to 25,000 units, though the latest outlook did not break out a separate figure.

For Rivian, higher deliveries could help strengthen its financial path as it continues scaling operations and investing in autonomous software. The company's progress this year suggests that its next-generation EV strategy may be gaining traction, with broader implications for how premium electric brands compete in the years ahead.
