HR software company Rippling has introduced AI Spend Console, a new tool designed to help businesses monitor how much they spend on AI and how effectively that usage supports work output.
The system tracks spending across employees, teams, and roles, aiming to show whether AI use is translating into measurable productivity. It also highlights patterns such as heavy AI users whose work may still require frequent revisions.
The product emerged after Rippling reviewed its own internal AI usage and found costs rising quickly. The company says a small share of employees was responsible for a large portion of total AI spend, while some individual users were consuming significant monthly budgets.
To respond, Rippling set spending caps with major AI tools and built an internal gateway that routes prompts to the most cost-efficient model for each task. The company says this approach helped reduce token costs while keeping AI usage high.
AI Spend Console also generates dashboards that combine usage, output, and cost metrics. Rippling says the goal is not to limit AI adoption, but to make it more intentional, measurable, and aligned with business value.
The company is now expanding the idea beyond engineering, including support for customer onboarding workflows. Rippling says the broader vision is to connect AI consumption with real productivity across the organization. This kind of measurement-first approach could shape how enterprises manage AI in the years ahead.
