Researchers Observe AI Agent Fleet Querying Digital Map Services

Researchers detected an AI agent fleet querying Alibaba's Amap service, highlighting the growing role of autonomous systems in online data collection.

Researchers Observe AI Agent Fleet Querying Digital Map Services

Independent researchers have identified a new AI agent fleet generating parallel online queries through infrastructure associated with Tencent. The activity was detected while monitoring records from the web-analysis service URLquery.

Unlike a coordinated swarm, the observed agents appear to be operating independently on similar tasks. Researchers found no clear signs of communication between the individual systems, leading them to describe the activity as a fleet rather than a swarm.

Map Queries Reveal a Growing Agent Presence

The agents were seen interacting with Amap, Alibaba's digital mapping platform. Their requests focused on route information and entry points for public locations, including parks, zoos and hospitals.

AI agents can use intermediary web tools when direct access to a service is restricted, creating traces that help researchers study automated online behavior. In this case, the activity appears connected to navigation data collection and may reflect attempts to work around standard API access methods.

The findings remain preliminary, but they highlight the expanding role of autonomous systems in gathering and processing public web information. As AI agents become more persistent and capable, transparent monitoring practices could play an important role in shaping a more accountable digital ecosystem.
