In a strategic move to refocus on its core offerings, reMarkable has unveiled the Paper Pure, a new monochrome tablet priced at $399. This latest device marks a return to basics after the company's exploration of color display productivity tablets, including the Paper Pro and Paper Pro Move.
The Paper Pure succeeds the reMarkable 2, which has been in the market for six years, and comes equipped with enhanced hardware and updated software features that position it competitively in the current tablet landscape. The tablet features a 10.3-inch display, maintaining the same resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels as its predecessor, but with a wider design that facilitates easier note-taking and reading.
With a storage capacity of 32GB--four times that of the previous model--the Paper Pure is also lighter, weighing in at just 360 grams. The device boasts a 50% increase in responsiveness compared to the reMarkable 2, alongside a 30% improvement in battery life, thanks to its 3,820 mAh battery.
Among the new features, the Paper Pure supports a web app that allows users to sync their calendars and take notes during meetings. Documents imported from cloud storage are automatically converted into a format suitable for reading and annotating on the tablet. Additionally, enhanced handwriting search capabilities make it easier to find notes.
Integration with popular collaboration tools like Slack enables users to transform handwritten notes into typed text for sharing, while compatibility with Miro allows for easy sharing of sketches and ideas.
As the company phases out the reMarkable 2, it will continue to provide software updates and support for existing users. The base model of the Paper Pure comes with a stylus, while a premium version, priced at $449, includes the Marker Plus stylus with an eraser function and a colorful sleeve folio. Pre-orders are open now, with shipping anticipated to commence in early June.
Having sold over 3.5 million devices and with 1.2 million subscribers to its Connect service, which offers unlimited cloud storage and exclusive templates, reMarkable is poised to further enhance its impact on digital note-taking and productivity.
This innovative approach could redefine how users engage with digital documents, paving the way for a future where simplicity and functionality coexist seamlessly in productivity tools.
