Reddit is turning to large language models to tackle a challenge that has grown alongside generative AI: spam and coordinated fake activity. The platform says its newer systems are designed to identify subtle patterns that older filters often missed.
According to Reddit, the company now blocks about 23 million spam views each day and detects roughly 25,000 new spam posts and comments daily. It also says these upgraded tools helped reduce users' exposure to spam by 20% between January and March compared with the previous three months.
The approach reflects a wider shift across digital platforms, where automated moderation is becoming more advanced as AI-generated content becomes easier to produce. Reddit says LLMs can spot coordinated behavior, artificial hype, and repetitive posting patterns with greater precision.
At the same time, industry experts continue to stress that AI moderation works best when paired with human review. That balance is seen as especially important as platforms expand their ability to classify content faster and more accurately.
As social networks refine these systems, the next phase of online moderation may become more adaptive, helping digital spaces stay more authentic and responsive in the age of AI.
