New York-based nonprofit Queer|Art has opened its second annual auction exhibition, pairing collectible works and cultural memorabilia with direct support for the next generation of LGBTQIA+ artists. The event is presented alongside Doll Invasion, a Fire Island-centered fundraising initiative.
Hosted at Participant Inc. and Salma Sarriedine galleries on Elizabeth Street, the exhibition features donated artworks, fashion pieces, archival materials, experiences, and rare objects that reflect the breadth of queer culture. Bidding continues online through September 3, while the physical exhibition remains on view through August 30.
Among the standout contributions are a director-signed Paris is Burning poster, original drawings by Cole Escola, signed vinyl editions of Chappell Roan's The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, a portrait of Amanda Lepore by Lia Clay, and a sculptural self-portrait by Young Joon Kwak. Sasha Colby's entrance accessory from RuPaul's Drag Race also appears among the featured items.
The auction also includes donated experiences from Peaches, Chani Nicholas, and other cultural figures, adding a participatory layer to the sale. Additional highlights include prints from Mexico City's Museo del Arte Transfemenino, Nelson Santos's tribute to Marsha P. Johnson, and rare publications curated by Barbara Smith.
Proceeds will benefit Queer|Art|Mentorship, a 10-month program that connects established LGBTQIA+ artists with emerging talent for one-on-one creative and professional guidance, ending with a retreat and a stipend for participants.
This initiative shows how art, community, and mentorship can work together to expand cultural access and shape a more inclusive creative future.
