Proton has introduced Lumo 2.0, the latest version of its privacy-first AI chatbot, bringing a broader set of creative and productivity features to users. The update adds image recognition and image generation, allowing people to upload visuals for analysis, editing, or new image creation from prompts.
The upgrade also strengthens Lumo's Projects feature, which connects the chatbot with Proton's wider ecosystem, including email and cloud storage. A new user-controlled persistent memory helps the assistant remember preferences across sessions, making conversations feel more continuous and personalized.
According to Proton, Lumo 2.0 is also noticeably faster, answering most queries up to 76 percent quicker than before. For more complex tasks, the chatbot now includes a thinking mode designed to handle deeper reasoning and multi-step questions.
Proton says Lumo continues to stand apart through its privacy architecture. The company describes its system as zero-access encryption, meaning data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with access limited to the user. Proton also says it does not keep server-side logs, use customer data for AI training, or share it with third parties.
Lumo 2.0 is available now, with both a free public version and paid plans that offer expanded access and resources. As privacy-aware AI tools mature, they may help shape a future where advanced digital assistants feel both powerful and more personal.
