This settlement stems from a class-action lawsuit initiated earlier this year, which accused Google of collecting excessive data from Android users without their consent while using cellular networks. This data collection allegedly occurred even when Google apps were not in use and location sharing was disabled. Eligibility for Payment
The settlement is designed to benefit any individual in the U.S. who utilized a mobile device running the Android operating system through cellular networks between November 12, 2017, and the date of final settlement approval. However, users with wifi-only devices are excluded. Additionally, California residents involved in the Csupo v. Google LLC case are not eligible for payouts as part of this settlement.
The exact amount each user will receive is yet to be finalized, as it depends on the total number of eligible claimants. Although payments are capped at $100, the actual payout may be lower if the estimated 100 million class members share the total equally.
