Passkeys Adoption Gap Highlighted by New Website Tracking Major Services

A new website is spotlighting major apps and services that still lack passkey support, as passwordless login gains momentum in digital security.

A new website is drawing attention to the growing gap between modern account security and the services that still rely on older login methods. The project highlights major platforms that have not yet enabled passkeys, a sign-in option widely seen as a safer and more convenient alternative to passwords.

According to the site, about one in four major apps and online services still do not offer passkeys, including well-known names such as Instagram, Netflix, and Spotify. The goal is simple: encourage companies to make the feature available so more users can adopt it.

Why passkeys matter

Passkeys are created on a user's device and linked to both the device and the service being accessed. They can work with Face ID, Touch ID, a security key, or a password manager, reducing the need to remember traditional passwords. Because they are designed to be resistant to phishing, they are increasingly viewed as a major step forward in digital security.

Security researcher Scott Helme, who launched the website whynopasskeys.com, said the public list is meant to motivate companies to move faster. Major technology firms including Apple, Google, and Microsoft already support passkeys for users.

The site also notes that Instagram supports passkeys only in limited cases, while some of Meta's other products already offer the feature. As more platforms adopt passwordless sign-in, the shift could help make everyday online access smoother, safer, and more intuitive for millions of users in the years ahead.
