Oura has officially launched its first proprietary AI model aimed at enhancing women's health insights through its AI chatbot, Oura Advisor. This innovative model is designed to provide personalized information covering the entire spectrum of reproductive health, from early menstrual cycles to menopause.
The model will be available in Oura Labs, an experimental feature hub within the Oura app where users can opt-in to explore new functionalities.
According to Oura, this new AI model is built upon established medical standards, extensive research, and expertise from board-certified clinicians and women's health specialists. It leverages biometric signals and longitudinal trends to offer tailored guidance.
As more individuals seek health advice from AI chatbots, addressing women's unique health needs has become increasingly important. Oura recognizes this necessity and aims to fill the gap with a model specifically designed for women.
Ricky Bloomfield, MD, Oura's chief medical officer, emphasized the significance of this model, stating, "This custom model represents a pivotal change in how we responsibly utilize AI in health to cater to our members' needs. Women's health is complex and often overlooked; thus, a one-size-fits-all approach is inadequate. By developing a model tailored for women, grounded in reliable clinical science and real-world biometric data, we are setting a new standard for responsible AI deployment in health."
The introduction of this AI model comes as Oura's chief commercial officer, Dorothy Kilroy, noted that the company's fastest-growing demographic is women in their early twenties, rather than traditional fitness enthusiasts.
When users pose questions related to women's health to Oura Advisor, the chatbot utilizes the new model to draw from its research and knowledge base while evaluating relevant biometric data, including sleep patterns, activity levels, menstrual cycles, and stress indicators.
The model has been crafted to be supportive and reassuring, ensuring users feel comfortable while interacting with the chatbot. However, it is important to note that it is not intended to replace professional medical advice or serve as a diagnostic tool.
Oura guarantees that all interactions with the AI model take place on secure infrastructure controlled by the company, ensuring that user conversations remain private and are not shared or sold.
To access the new model, users can easily opt into Oura Labs via the dropdown menu located in the upper left corner of the Oura app.
