Opera Adds Paste Protect to Strengthen Browser Safety

Opera's new Paste Protect feature helps block ClickFix attacks by warning users about suspicious commands and adding another layer of browser security.

Opera has introduced a new browser safeguard called Paste Protect, designed to help users avoid ClickFix-style attacks and other clipboard-based tricks. The feature adds a built-in warning layer when the browser detects suspicious commands that could be used to mislead users into running harmful code.

How the new protection works

When Paste Protect flags a risky command, it shows a clear alert and suggests closing the tab instead of proceeding. Users can still review the first part of the command if they want to check what triggered the warning. For those who trust a site, Opera also offers a manual override, but it requires holding a red button for several seconds to reduce accidental copying.

The system is built to recognize patterns linked to malicious scripts across Windows, macOS, and Linux. Opera says the feature is meant to catch deceptive tactics such as fake verification prompts that try to push users toward copying harmful instructions.

Part of Opera's wider security approach

Paste Protect joins Opera's earlier Hijack Protection, which helps prevent websites from changing copied clipboard content without permission. Together, these tools aim to make everyday browsing safer while keeping control in the hands of the user.

As browsers become smarter about detecting digital manipulation, features like Paste Protect may help set a new standard for safer, more intuitive web experiences in the future.
