OpenAI has announced another delay in the release of the "adult mode" for ChatGPT, a feature designed to provide verified adult users with access to a wider range of content, including erotica.
Initially unveiled by CEO Sam Altman in October, the feature was expected to roll out in December. Altman emphasized the commitment to treating adult users with respect and intended to introduce more adult-oriented content as part of this initiative.
However, the launch has faced setbacks. Previously scheduled for December, the release was postponed to the first quarter of this year following an internal memo from Altman, which indicated a "code red" status aimed at prioritizing enhancements to the core ChatGPT experience.
Recently, an OpenAI representative stated that the launch of adult mode is being deferred once more to allow the team to concentrate on higher priority projects that benefit a broader user base. These include improvements in the chatbot's intelligence, personality, and proactivity.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the company's belief in treating adults appropriately, but acknowledged that perfecting the experience requires additional time. The timeline for the new launch date remains unclear, as the company continues to refine its offerings.
