OpenAI has introduced GPT-5.6, a new model family built to expand what users can do across coding, enterprise workflows, and scientific tasks. The lineup includes three versions: Sol, the flagship model; Terra, the mid-tier option; and Luna, the more affordable choice.
The company says the new generation is designed for stronger performance with greater efficiency, especially in technical work. CEO Sam Altman said the models are significantly more cost-effective than earlier versions, with Sol delivering notable token savings in coding tasks.
OpenAI is also positioning GPT-5.6 as its most advanced cybersecurity model so far, highlighting capabilities such as threat modeling, code review, patching, and blue teaming. The company says these features are aimed at helping teams strengthen systems before vulnerabilities can be exploited.
Alongside the models, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Work, a workplace-focused tool available on desktop, web, and mobile. It is designed to support everyday office tasks such as drafting documents, building spreadsheets, and preparing presentations for enterprise teams.
OpenAI says GPT-5.6 is now available through ChatGPT, Codex, and the OpenAI API, with pricing set according to each model tier. The release arrives as competition in AI continues to intensify, especially in enterprise and coding-focused applications. The next phase of AI may be shaped by systems that combine higher capability with lower cost and broader practical use.
