OpenAI has joined forces with Infosys to incorporate its advanced artificial intelligence tools, including the coding assistant Codex, into Infosys' Topaz AI platform. This collaboration aims to assist clients in modernizing software development, streamlining workflows, and implementing AI systems on a larger scale, with an initial focus on software engineering, legacy system upgrades, and DevOps practices.
As the Indian IT sector navigates challenges from a slowdown in client spending alongside rapid advancements in generative AI, this partnership emerges as a proactive response. Infosys has experienced a decline in its share price, dropping over 22% this year due to broader market conditions and concerns surrounding the impact of AI on traditional outsourcing roles.
This partnership is part of a growing trend where AI companies align with global IT service providers to foster widespread adoption within large enterprises. OpenAI has previously collaborated with HCLTech, while Infosys has also established a partnership with Anthropic to develop enterprise-grade AI agents.
Through this alliance, OpenAI gains access to Infosys' extensive global client network and delivery capabilities, spanning over 60 countries. The primary goal is to facilitate the transition from experimental AI applications to comprehensive deployment across various enterprises.
Infosys is intensifying its focus on AI, reporting that AI-related services generated approximately ₹25 billion (around $267 million) in revenue during the last quarter, constituting about 5.5% of its total earnings.
This initiative is part of OpenAI's broader strategy to expand its enterprise presence, which includes the launch of Codex Labs. This program engages engineers to collaborate directly with clients for effective tool deployment. Initial partners in this endeavor include notable firms like Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, Infosys, PwC, and Tata Consultancy Services. OpenAI is committed to building a robust distribution network to enhance the adoption of Codex, which currently boasts over 4 million weekly active users.
