October 2026: Global Grants, Fellowships and Open Calls for Artists

October 2026 brings a wide range of funding, residency and exhibition opportunities for artists, researchers and cultural professionals. Programmes across the United States, Canada and Europe are inviting applications for projects spanning visual art, craft, photography, criticism and cultural exchange.

Awards and project funding

The ArtFields Festival is seeking Southern US artists for its 2027 programme in Lake City, South Carolina, offering more than $100,000 in prizes alongside a public-art proposal track. Applications close November 1.

Manhattan-based artists, collectives and nonprofit organisations can apply to the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council for flexible project or unrestricted support by November 12. In Queens, the Tallichet Freedman Foundation will award 10 unrestricted $3,000 microgrants to eligible visual artists, with applications due October 29.

International opportunities include the Asian Cultural Council's 2027 grants for research and cultural exchange across Asia and the United States, and the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, which awards €50,000 for outstanding innovation and artistic achievement in contemporary craft. The Craft Prize deadline is October 15.

Exhibitions and creative visibility

apexart is welcoming concise proposals for group exhibitions scheduled for 2027-28 in New York City. Five selected projects will receive budgets of up to $10,000, with submissions due October 31.

Artists may also contribute original postcard-sized works to Postcards From the Edge, a benefit initiative supporting Visual AIDS. Each work is presented anonymously and sold at a fixed price, creating an accessible platform for collecting art while supporting cultural programming. The deadline is November 20.

Research and residency pathways

The Image Centre in Canada is offering six photography research fellowships valued between CAD $4,000 and $70,000. The programme is open to artists, students and scholars working with its collections; applications close October 18.

Other notable programmes include Millay Arts residencies for multidisciplinary practitioners, the Chicago Critic's Table fellowship for emerging cultural writers, and American-Scandinavian Foundation fellowships supporting research and creative projects in the Nordic region.

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is accepting applications for residential research fellowships in US art, craft and visual culture through October 15. Additional routes for scholars and artists include fellowships at the Harry Ransom Center, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and A.I.R. Gallery's programme for emerging women and non-binary artists in New York City.

These programmes signal a future in which creative practice is increasingly supported through cross-border research, local cultural networks and more diverse routes to public visibility.
