Nintendo has initiated legal proceedings against the U.S. government, seeking reimbursement for tariffs imposed on global businesses. The lawsuit, lodged in the U.S. Court of International Trade, targets duties that arose from President Donald Trump's executive orders, which utilized the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
This action follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the tariffs, asserting that the president had overstepped his authority. Nintendo's complaint highlights that these tariffs have led to the collection of over $200 billion on imports, with more than a thousand other companies also pursuing refunds.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Nintendo confirmed the filing, stating, "We can confirm that we have filed a request. We have nothing else to share on the topic."
The backdrop of this lawsuit is marked by President Trump's response to the Supreme Court decision, which he labeled as "extraordinarily anti-American." In reaction, he increased tariffs from 10% to 15%, prompting twenty-four states to challenge this action, arguing that the president has again exceeded his powers.
