New Relic Unveils Innovative AI Agent Platform and OpenTelemetry Enhancements

In a bid to enhance enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence, New Relic has introduced its latest offering: a no-code AI agent platform designed for data observability. This innovative platform empowers businesses to create AI agents that monitor their data, identifying bugs and issues proactively before they can impact operations.

The newly launched New Relic Agentic Platform allows companies to deploy pre-built agents and manage existing bots seamlessly. This user-friendly approach aims to simplify the integration of AI into everyday business processes.

One of the standout features of this platform is its support for the model context protocol (MCP), which facilitates connections between AI applications and external data sources. Furthermore, it integrates smoothly with other New Relic tools, enhancing overall functionality.

Brian Emerson, New Relic's chief product officer, emphasized that the goal is not to be the sole platform for AI agent management. Instead, the focus is on providing clients with robust agent-building capabilities that complement their existing tools for observability. "We're not building this as general purpose," Emerson stated. "Our objective is to address specific outcomes within observability while collaborating with the broader ecosystem of tools."

The demand for software that helps manage AI agents has surged recently, as businesses seek to mitigate concerns regarding data security and software access for AI systems. Notably, Salesforce was among the pioneers in this space, launching its agent platform, Agentforce, in late 2024, followed by OpenAI's introduction of OpenAI Frontier earlier this year. Research from Gartner highlights the necessity of such platforms, labeling them as essential infrastructure for fostering AI adoption in enterprises.

In addition to the AI agent platform, New Relic announced enhancements to its OpenTelemetry (OTel) tools. The company's application performance monitoring (APM) agents now include OTel capabilities, allowing enterprises to manage OTel data streams alongside other data sources in a unified manner. This integration addresses previous fragmentation issues that hindered widespread adoption of the OTel framework.

Nic Benders, New Relic's chief technology strategist, pointed out the challenges many teams face in managing OTel data collectors. "Just send your OTel data to us," he advised, highlighting the importance of streamlined fleet management for OTel data.

With these advancements, New Relic is positioning itself as a leader in the observability space, fostering innovation and efficiency in how enterprises interact with AI technologies.
