Netflix is set to unveil a vertical video feed resembling the popular format of TikTok within its apps this month. This innovative feature aims to enhance user engagement by facilitating the discovery of video podcasts alongside its extensive library of shows and films. The company has been experimenting with this format since last year, signaling a significant shift in how users interact with content.

In addition to the vertical video feed, Netflix is expanding its use of artificial intelligence to enhance content recommendations. Co-CEO Gregory Peters emphasized during a recent conference call that while Netflix has been a pioneer in personalization for two decades, there remains vast potential to improve through the adoption of advanced technologies. He noted that newer recommendation systems will not only enhance current personalization efforts but also enable faster iterations and support for diverse content types.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos highlighted the transformative potential of AI in the content creation process. He believes that while AI will not replace the artistry involved in filmmaking, it will provide creators with superior tools to realize their visions. This sentiment is further underscored by Netflix's recent acquisition of Interpositive, an AI-driven filmmaking company founded by Ben Affleck. Sarandos remarked that this acquisition accelerates Netflix's generative AI capabilities, offering filmmakers specialized technology that distinguishes it from other AI applications.

Moreover, Netflix is looking to leverage AI to enhance its advertising suite, aiming for new formats and customization options that could significantly boost ad revenue, projected to reach $3 billion this year. The company reported impressive financial results, with a revenue of $12.25 billion in Q1 2026, marking a 16.2% increase year-over-year and an 83% surge in profits.

As Netflix continues to innovate and adapt to evolving viewer preferences, these developments could redefine the landscape of streaming entertainment, paving the way for a more interactive and personalized viewing experience in the future.
